Mount Calvary Baptist Church has a long history of serving Christ in the Kanawha Valley.  Originally known as Magazine Baptist Church, the church was formed in 1904 and met in the Mary Street School until 1909.  In 1909, the first building was erected in Garrison Ave. in Charleston.   In 1919, a new church was dedicated on Crescent Road.  The building was moved to the back of the Crescent Road property and the new building was constructed in 1960.   In 1968, this structure was moved to its new location on Bigley Avenue to allow for the construction of Interstate 77 through Charleston.   The 750 ton building was moved onto a new basement and a new education annex was added for a total cost of $350,000.  The remaining two sections of our buildings were the Ministry Center completed in 2003 and the Connections Theater completed in 2009.

Twenty Two men have served as Pastor of Mount Calvary Baptist Church and each has brought a passion to the proclamation of Godís Word.   Our ministry today rests on a rich history of those who have served,  loved and sacrificed for the building of Godís work.  Today, we remain committed to serving in the capital city of West Virginia and introducing our community to our Lord and Savior.
